WHY DO I WRITE?
PUBLISHING COLLAGE.

I write because my voice matters.

I write not to be perfect, but to be present.

Each word is a step, each sentence a thread connecting me to something deeper—truth, memory, imagination.

I don’t wait for permission or perfection.

I show up, even when it’s messy, even when it’s hard.

I trust the process.

I trust my voice.

I honour the stories waiting to be told.

Writing is not a task—it’s a practice, a devotion, a way home.

Today, I begin again.

I write because I can, because I must, because I was born to tell stories.

Before I embraced writing as a serious pursuit, I could never have imagined the profound joy and leverage it would provide me across many platforms.

Today, I weave together my greatest passions—writing, painting, photography, food, and travel—into projects that ignite my entrepreneurial spirit and challenge me at every turn. With each new endeavour, I move forward with a heart overflowing with gratitude, always seeking new stories to tell and fresh perspectives to explore.

But one truth remains constant: to be a writer of substance, you must cultivate a daily writing practice. You must challenge yourself to shape ideas into words that resonate deeply with yourself first, then your audience, evoking meaning, emotion, and connection.

For over a decade, I have immersed myself in writing workshops, retreats, and online courses, continuously refining my craft.

PUBLISHING ...

My 'Taste of Life' series—22 healthy-eating cookbooks that sold over 2.3 million copies worldwide—did more than transform a generation’s approach to food; they transformed my life. Throughout the '80s and '90s, the success of my books opened doors I never could have imagined. I launched healthy-eating restaurants, collaborated with leading food and appliance manufacturers, and helped shape a new, health-conscious market. Writing books became more than just authorship—it became a powerful tool of influence, innovation, and opportunity.

My self-help book, 'Stepping Out', published in 1990, took that momentum even further. Not only did it become a bestseller, but it also catapulted me onto the lucrative speaking circuit, where I discovered yet another avenue for impact and income. Once again, writing proved to be more than just words on a page—it was a catalyst for extraordinary new ventures.

Yet, I refused to be confined to a single genre. Eager to stretch my creative muscles, I ventured into memoir with 'The Seagull: An Unexpected Love Story' and took a bold step into fiction with my debut novel, 'Seagulls on the Ganges'—a story compelling enough to be transformed into a screenplay.

Writing has never been just a career for me; it has been a gateway to reinvention, expansion, and boundless possibilities. If you're ready to explore where your writing can take you—beyond the pages of a book—I look forward to guiding you on that journey.
