"The view over Paris rooftops was so spectacular there was no need for words, and so, they sat comfortably in each other’s silence with their shoulders touching. Ellie’s thoughts wandered back to the night before when she had seen two seagulls fly across the sky from opposite directions and how, when their paths had crossed, how one seagull had turned, and two seagulls followed the same path. Ellie asked Marcel, “Do you ever stop and think about those things that happen unexpectedly, that make you stop and wonder about them?”

“What do you mean?” he asked.

“Like a moment that gives you goosebumps. Your heart races, but you can’t explain why. Like a coincidence, just too coincidental, and somehow you know deep in a corner of your heart that the moment is more than special?”
